Ben Rothwell is now a BKFC fighter, but that doesn’t necessarily means he won’t have MMA plans again in the future.

Rothwell, 40, asked for a release from his UFC contract in March and opted to sign with BKFC after he says he received the best offer from the bare-knuckle promotion.

Rothwell’s UFC tenure lasted for 17 fights over the span of 13 years and while he’s happy to embark on this new chapter, he has a ‘never say never’ attitude when it comes to potentially re-entering the cage.

“I’ll just use Chase Sherman as an example. He left the UFC, did some bare-knuckle fights, (went) back to the UFC, and then the UFC let him go, and then he was back in the UFC within a week,” Rothwell told MMA Junkie Radio. “So anything possible, I think is that example. I don’t close doors. I’ve been doing MMA for 23 years, so literally over half of my life, and it’s a part of me. I did just straight kickboxing too when I was younger so I’m kind of open for everything. I love boxing so going to BKFC was pretty natural for me.”

Rothwell, who owns 28 knockouts in pro MMA, expects the transition to bare-knuckle to be a seamless one.

“I’ve been throwing these things for a long time,” Rothwell said. “Gloves or no gloves, as you’ve heard, I don’t wrap my hands for a long time. I think that was a big thing with BKFC fighters is, ‘Hey, we don’t wrap our hands because boxers and MMA guys have to,’ and I’m like, ‘Well, I’ve been one of you for this whole time.’ So I’m all about it, no restrictions on my hands and God bless that these things are some of the strongest weapons I got (are) my hands.

“I’ve won many, many fights with knockouts so for me it’s a very natural fit. Some people are very adamant about their hand wraps and I could see that totally messing up their head going to BKFC and they’re like, ‘What do you mean I can’t wrap my hands?’ That could be a real mental challenge that could take someone out of the game. They may not even want to do this, so there is that side of it. I just obviously was kind of already meant for this. I’ve been doing no hand wraps for many years already.”
